Peer Review

Peer Review is held twice annually in January and July and follows all regulations and requirements set forth by the state of Texas and the North American Registry of Midwives. All cases are de-identified to ensure client confidentiality and to abide by HIPAA regulations for disclosure of protected health information. Meeting attendance is restricted to midwife members and student members who were actively involved in any cases being presented.

To request an emergency or private Peer Review session, please reach out to our Executive Board at GHMAboard@gmail.com

NARM Peer Review Requirements

The midwife must present all cases involving consultation, transfer of care, transport to the hospital, instances where the midwife is outside of practice guidelines (include in these the process of Informed Choice used), and cases where the midwife wishes more input from the community of midwives. It is also helpful to the community if the midwife also discusses interesting cases or situations.

GHMA Commitment

GHMA strives to provide a supportive, educational, and respectful environment for all midwives attending peer review. Positive feedback is encouraged, and any concerns should be raised in a thoughtful and respectful manner. Confidentiality is required for all in attendance.

In instances where recommendations or follow up requests are reached by group consensus, each participating midwife must agree to such binding decisions in the future.  No recommendations are made that the other midwives would not themselves carry out.

Documents for Peer Review

Documents should be filled out and submitted upon arrival at Peer Review. Please keep duplicates for your own records.
